Low Water Beck – Coniston

Stunning day in the Lakes. Some ice and neve now forming on routes - but water still flowing despite -12C overnight.

Hopped up to Low Water Beck at Coniston for happy days winter cragging.

The hills are full of teachers as schools are closed, and we had 1in front of us, 2 in our team and 1 behind. Mad ! All checking for txt’s to see if school closed tomorrow.

Low Water Beck was a bit wet but most climbable and loads of fun. We should have done the straight up option at the top - but exited left thinking it petered out into verglass rock above the ice boss. It didn’t. Ah well. After the 2 pitches, we wandered unroped up a couple of hundred feet of occasional ice steps and finished with Xmas cake and coffee at the tarn before smelling beer in the far off Sun Hotel.
